Marcie Fehr
Marcie is a hot, fiery, misanthropic, radical researcher for the Women's and Gender Studies Department at the University of Winnipeg— a combination of qualifiers compiled by her supervisor, Dr. Pauline Greenhill (Women's and Gender Studies, University of Winnipeg), and Dr. Jack Zipes (Professor Emeritus, University of Minneapolis).
Marcie is the kind of gal who reads/colours/lives outside the lines. She is generally interested in symbolism, and representations of queer sexuality in film, literature, traditional performance, and popular culture. Marcie has worked with Dr. Greenhill since 2008 as a research assistant on multiple projects involving folklore, fairy tales, fairy tale film, and gender. She has upcoming publications on Mennonite masculinities and racialized performance within the tradition of Brommtopp, a seasonal, musical performance in Manitoba Mennonite communities; as well as an upcoming co-authored work with PhD student Kendra Magnusson, on non/human transbiology in the television series Buffy The Vampire Slayer. This spring, Marcie looks forward to presenting her paper "Recognizing the Unintelligible: Distorted (step)mother/witch bodies in filmed adaptations of Hansel and Gretel", at the international conference "The Grimm Brothers Today: Kinder- und Hausmärchen and Its Legacy 200 Years After", in Lisbon, Portugal.
