The New Lightweights (Musical Guest)
When Ariel Posen, Alexa Dirks, and Ryan Voth first formed The New Lightweights in early 2008, it was simply a way for three long-time friends to get together and play the music they grew up loving. Combining old school soul, pop, and the roots music that Manitoba is known for, they began writing together and in 2009 they released an EP of all original material that received critical acclaim and heavy CBC rotation.
Each member of The New Lightweights is a heavyweight in the their own right. Ariel is a staple in the Canadian music scene, having worked with Sierra Noble, Chantal Kreviazuk and many more. He also fronts his own blues and pop projects. Alexa has spent the last five years writing and touring with Juno award winning group: Chic Gamine. Ryan has been a professional drummer for over five years, backing up some of Manitoba's premier artists and bands, including Imaginary Cities and Del Barber.
The sum of all their parts creates a sound that is soulful and catchy with Dirks' siren voice, Ariel's melodic guitar playing, and Ryan's dynamic and precise drumming at the forefront. Lyrics that speak of love, loss, and what keep us all together are blended with quirky and beautifully orchestrated arrangements that are sure to have listeners captivated for years to come.
