Though most familiar to over 750,000 weekly listeners as the host of “The Debaters” on CBC Radio One, it is as an international headline stand-up comedian where Steve Patterson shines brightest.
A mainstay on stages across Canada since 1997 when he was fired from his job as a copywriter for making an ad about an amusement park too amusing, Patterson has headlined in Australia, Ireland, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the United States and even the United Arab Emirates where crowds have been united in their praise.
In 2010, while recording his third Just For Laughs television gala, Patterson not only earned a Gemini nomination for excellence in Canadian television, but also his most precious praise yet from gala host and comedy icon Steve Martin who proclaimed:
“If I’d known he was going to be THAT good I would have cancelled him.”
In fact, for over a decade now Patterson has performed in nationally televised comedy Galas annually, including Montreal’s Just for Laughs and the Winnipeg and Halifax Comedy Festivals. Patterson’s trademark wit is well-sought after to also host events where top-notch stand-up comedy is appreciated, such as the Just For Laughs tour: British edition (2011), the Canadian Comedy Awards (2011), Industry Gala nights for both the Geminis (2011) and Canadian Screen Awards (2013), The Global Morning Show (2013), and CBCs Short Film Face Off (2011 & 2012).
In 2013 Patterson continues his dutes with The Debaters, is touring his first solo stand-up theatre tour across Canada expressing all the opinions he doesn’t get to express as the moderator of The Debaters in his one-man show “This Is Not Debatable”.
Award-winning, well-respected and painstakingly persistent in creating new material, Steve Patterson give his very best to each audience he performs for.
